In a crisis, the instinct is to wait for complete information before speaking. The information is never complete.
Silence does not pause the story. It hands authorship of it to whoever is willing to speak first.
The useful discipline is not speed for its own sake — it is having decided, long before the crisis, what you are willing to say when you do not yet know everything.
